Comprehensive Website on Bapu

We seem to have forgotten Bapu’s Birthday on 2nd Oct. No TV channel showed any special program on him or his work. No newspaper brought out any special supplement. No new stamp was issued in his honour. No new bridge or road was named after him. No friend sent any sms to celebrate his birthday.

Then I came across this great website on Bapu, which was forwarded to me by a non-Indian. Bapu, we Indians may have forgotten you, but the world has not and will not. Long live your name and teachings.

This website was an eye opener in many ways. Although from childhood we hear great stories about bapujis times and life there are also some other stories where Gandhiji has been chastised for his bias towards during the partition. Primarily with regards to the 55,000 crores India had released to Pakistan , after the partition despite the war on Kashmir and harassment and killing of Hindu refugees in Pakistan. This site helped rest many of those untrue stories.

They only question I still found an answer to is why he supported Nehru over Patel for Indias Prime Minister position.

It was shown in India. Due respects were given to his samadhi as well as Lal Bahadur Shastri. Even the local channels like AajTak and Doordarshan were showing programmes but it is nice to visit the website you have sent

The message below was forwarded to me by a friend along with the website. I feel the best way to remember him is to follow his ideals, specially his penchant for truth and fearlessness. TV, Stamps, speeches are trivial, for publicity and as I understand, Gandhi would have abhorred these.
However, the website is very informative and makes excellent reading. But I did not find any reference to Louis Fisher’s excellent biography of Gandhi there.
Thanks,

Thanks for the timely reminder. The fact is that perhaps the most potent way of remembering Gandhiji is looking and learning from the good in his way of life. I am glad that no stamps or no bridges or no roads etc were made for show. The site serves to remind us of his legacy and we can only pray that we achieve an iota of the selflessness he practised in our materialistic lives.

By the way, one message of Gandhiji that I now carry with regard to the environment... "The earth has enough resources for our need, but not for our greed. M.K. Gandhi"

Perhaps each of us can find one such thing thereby making his memory something living, rather than a dead statue or stamp.
Regards

I had remembered it. But how many Americans remember Abraham Lincoln's birthday? It is more to follow his example and to improve on it than token remembrances. Mrs. Sheila Dixit, If U heard her take on Barkha Dutt, Mani Shanker Aiyar, Channel reporters,Press, Emmar-MGR, IOC, other arm chair critics et al, made a biting reply on MG's birthday on the eve of CWG opening on NDTV.
